Suriname – The former Dutch colony has a mixed of Amerindians , Africans, Indians, Indonesians, Creoles, Lebanese and Chinese cultures.

Former Minister Stephan Tsang on a Promo Video below:

Suriname, a country with a melting pot of cultures, ethnic groups and religions, is known in the world as an example of how a multicultural society should function. Brotherly, the Islamitic temple and jewish Synagogue stand side by side, with the large Hindu temple and a beautiful wooden cathedral in the vicinity. Walking through the historic city center of Paramaribo, we see how the Afro-Surinamese, Hindustani, Javanese, Maroons and many other ethnic groups in the country have a rich indulge in each other’s delicious cuisines. The public buses that drive through the streets with loud Surinamese music create a festive atmosphere that can always be tasted.
French Guyana, Guyana and Suriname are undoubtedly the last paradises away from the tourist crowds and are among the insider tips.
The wealth of Suriname is the savannahs, the coastal areas, the jungle, the animal and bird world, the cultures of the Indians, Maroons (descendants of runaway slaves), Creoles, Indians, Indonesians, Chinese, Lebanese. Authentic encounters are waiting for you!

The purpose of the Suriname-day event is to introduce the Surinamese culture. It is therefore also for everyone accessible. All visitors of your country are very welcome to learn about the Surinamese culture.

We are about to bring this feeling, this sensation on the Suriname-day in many places in the world. On a large stage you will be able to enjoy Surinamese music by top artists from Suriname, while Surinamese cuisine will be superfluous.

SurinamedayEvents in Zwitserland

THE DISCOVERY OF THE UNKNOWN IN SOUTH-AMERICA

In March 2008, Wilfred Richards left Rotterdam for Switzerland to work for a Swiss company. Nowadays he works as a Multimedia specialist at a bank in Zurich.
He came into contact with the Surinamese Gladys Bringold, who lived in Switzerland for over 40 years. From 2002, she organized the annual ‘Suriname Day in Switzerland’ for Surinamese living in Switzerland.

With the return migration of Gladys Bringold to Suriname, Wilfred Richards took over the role as a result of the increasing demand from Surinamese in the Netherlands to also participate in the Suriname Day in Switzerland.
Wilfred Richards then came up with the idea of making the Suriname Day in Switzerland also accessible to the general public
After more than 15 years in Switzerland, he took the initiative to promote his native country in Switzerland with music, dance, food and culture, since Suriname is very unknown in Switzerland and therefore wants to bring these two countries together.

The “Suriname Day in Switzerland” is the event that aims to promote our country, where we can showcase the Swiss people in the field of music and dance such as Kaseko, Kaskawi, Merengue and Aleke. The typical Surinamese recipes of Javanese, Indian and African roots should not be missed.

This year during the Pentecost weekend 2023, our SurinamedayEvents Foundation in collaboration with the ChietSana Foundation will perform for the first time at the invitation of the Afro-Pinkster Festival. We have been assigned a market stand for Suriname. A coach departed from the Netherlands with interested parties to Winterthur in Switzerland to be able to attend the Afro-Pentecostal festival together.

During Pentecost, the Afro-Pinkster Festival turns the entire city of Winterthur into an intercultural melting pot.
More than 250 market vendors present their products from their motherland and sell delicious culinary specialties of African and Latin American handicrafts.
Concerts, markets, workshops, art, films, parties, lectures, a family day and much more – together we celebrate the diversity of Afro-cultures! This is a great moment to promote Suriname to 80,000 visitors.

The 2nd tour is an impressive natural spectacle – the Rhine Falls, the largest waterfall in Europe.
It is located in Switzerland in the municipality of Neuhausen in the canton of Schaffhausen, about four kilometers west of the town of Schaffhausen.
Excursion boats can sail close to the Rhine Falls and can also be dropped off at the rock in the middle.
The climb to the viewing platform with a breathtaking view of the waterfall is via narrow and steep stairs.
The Rhine Falls is 23 meters high and 150 meters wide.

The time is ripe to make Suriname more known in other corners of the world. That is what the SurinamedayEvents foundation stands for in collaboration with ChietSana Foundation.
